Indonesia - Working Partners Foundation supports the work of Pondok Kasih Foundation, in Indonesia. Here, they work to assist many poor and downcast in Surabaya by providing basic life needs - including food, shelter, education and most especially love. For many of the four million people living in Surabaya, the second largest city in Indonesia is a victim of the "lost generation", where the mental and physical development of the children are greatly affected by malnutrition. To combat this profound reality, a rice distribution program has been established by Pondok Kasih to help the despair. Rice is the staple food of choice for two-thirds of the world's population. It is a wholly nutritious cereal grain and it has qualities which make it ideally suited for a wide variety of vitamin and mineral dietary needs - food energy, fiber, protein, iron, calcium, carbohydrates just to name a few. Additionally, WPF supports the needs of this Feeding Center that provides medicine, baby food, noodles, powdered milk, eating utensils, bottles, water and more.
On, Sunday, December 26, 2004 at 7:59 am the largest earthquake to strike the globe since 1964 caused devastating tsunami waves that have killed thousands in south Asia. The 9.0 -magnitude quake hit off of the coast of Indonesia, triggering extremely large waves, recorded at over 50 feet high, traveling at speeds of up to 300 miles per hour. This brought massive flooding, damage and loss of life to the region. The WPF was among the first to offer aid in this tragedy. We partnered with International Medical Relief to provide medical supplies valuing over $840,000 to medical personnel traveling to aid communities around ground zero of the tragedy at Banda Aceh. The WPF supported volunteer projects consisting of medical relief and community health, a children's trauma relief program, and a community assistance program for rebuilding and re-growth.
WPF helped provide funds to rebuild homes after the Padang earthquake in September 2009. In the Philippines, WPF has provided funds to support numerous relief (medical, education and rebuilding) programs for victims of wars in Lanao del Norte and Lanao del Sur, and as a result of Typhoon Ketsana in September and October of 2009.
